Applications
Sodium carbonate (or soda ash) is a water-soluble sodium salt with a wide variety of uses. It has application in the manufacture of glass, as an acidity regulator or pH buffer, taxidermy, and as an electrolyte in chemistry. Most commonly, it is used domestically as a water softener. It is produced synthetically from sodium chloride (salt) and limestone.
