Toluene naturally occurs in crude oil and is most commonly used as a solvent in applications including adhesives, disinfectants, leather tanners, printing ink, rubber, silicone sealants, paints, and paint thinners. Toluene can also be used as a precursor in chemical syntheses and to improve the octane rating in gasoline.
Toluene is not compatible with heat, flames, strong oxidizers, nitric and sulfuric acids, chlorine, nitrogen tetraoxide, some forms of plastics, rubber, and coatings. Please see SDS for full safety and compatibility information.
